Sparking Joy When It’s Needed Most

For families staying at the Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) in Toronto, the holiday season can be an especially challenging time. Finding moments of light and comfort is invaluable. That’s why, in 2024, our Toronto Central team set out with a simple goal: to give back to their community and create a truly heartwarming experience for these families. They knew that success wasn’t just about business; it was about supporting the community. After connecting with the team at RMHC, a plan was built to bring a special kind of holiday magic to the House.

The project began with decorating and lighting up the main courtyard tree. The effect was immediate. “The holiday lights installed by Shack Shine have brought the magic of the season to Ronald McDonald House Toronto — a place where families stay strong together when a child is seriously ill.” says Elaine Wilson, Manager, Family Services. “The families staying with us are going through incredibly difficult times, and this beautiful display brings a sense of joy, comfort, and normalcy when they need it most. It’s more than decoration — it’s a reminder that the community cares and that they are not alone.”

The partnership has only grown stronger. After the success of the first year, the team met with RMHC staff to see how they could build on the experience. This year, the installation is even brighter, adding over a dozen trees to the design. The lights now create a beautiful, welcoming visual from the moment one approaches the property. As we head towards the holiday season, this installation is a shining example of how we can come together to make people smile. It’s our hope that many more will have the chance to experience this spark of joy.
