Power washing FAQs

Is there a difference between pressure washing and power washing?

While these two terms are often used interchangeably and are quite similar to one another, there is a slight difference between these two services. Both pressure and power washing use highly pressurized water to remove grime and other stains from outdoor surfaces, but power washing adds the benefit of heated water, which can often make cleaning these surfaces easier and more thorough.

How often should you power wash your house?

It’s up to you! At the bare minimum, we recommend washing the core surfaces of your home (driveway, deck, siding etc.) at least once a year.

In Charlotte’s humid climate with abundant tree coverage, many homeowners benefit from scheduling multiple services throughout the year. The combination of pollen in spring and falling leaves in autumn creates ongoing maintenance challenges for exterior surfaces.

Charlotte’s seasonal patterns make spring and fall ideal times for power washing. We recommend a thorough cleaning in April or May after the heavy pollen season subsides, and another in late October to remove accumulated grime before winter arrives and temperatures occasionally drop below freezing.

Why is power washing important in North Carolina?

North Carolina experiences a subtropical climate with four distinct seasons, including particularly humid summers and moderate winters.

The frequent afternoon thunderstorms during summer months followed by intense sunshine creates perfect conditions for mold and mildew growth on Charlotte homes, while autumn brings falling leaves that decompose and stain exterior surfaces.

These weather-related buildups cause numerous problems for homeowners—creating dangerous slip hazards after rain, permanently staining concrete if left untreated, and significantly reducing your property’s curb appeal and value in Charlotte’s competitive real estate market.

How much does power washing in Charlotte cost?

The cost of our power washing service will vary depending on the size of your home, how many surfaces need to be cleaned and if you need any other services from our crew during their visit to your home. If you’d like more pricing information, we’re always happy to come and provide you with a free, zero-obligation estimate for our power washing service.

How long does it take to power wash a house?

It all depends on the size of your home, but we promise to always get the job done in one detailed visit.

Can you power wash vinyl siding?

Yes! Our trained technicians are able to safely and efficiently wash softer surface areas, like vinyl siding.

Can you damage concrete by power washing?

When done improperly, it is possible to damage any surface with a power washer. That’s why it’s important to hire the trained professionals at Shack Shine to make sure the job is done right.

How does Charlotte’s high pollen count affect my home’s exterior?

Charlotte consistently ranks among cities with the highest pollen counts in the US, particularly in spring when pine and oak trees release visible yellow dust that coats everything outdoors.

This pollen doesn’t just trigger allergies—it embeds itself into porous surfaces like concrete driveways and wooden decks, creating stubborn stains that regular hosing can’t remove. Our high-powered equipment specifically targets these tough Charlotte-specific stains without damaging your property’s surfaces.

What special considerations are needed for power washing historic homes in Charlotte neighborhoods?

Charlotte’s historic districts like Fourth Ward and Dilworth feature homes that are often 80-100+ years old with delicate materials that require specialized care.

Our technicians are trained to adjust pressure settings and techniques when working on historical properties, ensuring we preserve original brick, wood siding, and ornamental details that give these Charlotte neighborhoods their distinctive character. We understand the balance between effective cleaning and preserving the integrity of your historic Charlotte home.

Ibrahim Alnawateer

Hello, my name is Ibrahim Alnawateer and I grew up in Jordan. I moved to North America when I was 16 and ended up loving it here. For the last 10 years Charlotte has been my home. I came from a large family which shaped me to be very family-oriented. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors or playing volleyball.

I went to UNCC and majored in biology, but I’ve somehow ended up in the home services business. Prior to joining Shack Shine, the house detailing concept was very foreign to me. I think it’s a unique space and I’m very excited to introduce the Shack Shine experience to the Charlotte homeowners.
